I'm super excited about a photo shoot I will be working on this coming Friday with my extremely talented friend Katie Nixon of Katie Nixon Photography! I will be doing hair and makeup for a very special woman who won a contest Katie announced on her appearance on The Broadcast: Entertainment Talk Show! I was already willing to do this but then Katie made sure to share the story of the winner with me so I could get a sense of who I'd be working with. I'm sure glad that she did! Her entry made me cry and reaffirm why I do what I do! To make someone feel beautiful and confident by just doing their hair or their makeup seems so simple to me, but to others it's not. My mother was a hair dresser all my life and as long as I could remember I was getting my hair done and playing with makeup, all at the encouragement of my mother. I was sometimes her guinea pig and wasn't afraid to try new things because I grew up seeing my mother do the same. For example: My mother worked all the time...I mean ALL THE TIME and even sometimes late at night. It wasn't abnormal for me to already be in bed when she'd come home, so I wouldn't see her until she woke me up the next day. Well one particular morning I heard the sweet voice of my mother telling me to wake up...ever so gently and calm. As I began to open my eyes and focus them, I see her leaning over me with BLONDE hair! My mother was well known for her short and sassy firey red hair that went with her personality so it was a shock to wake up to her with blonde hair. She had decided on a whim it was time to try something fun and different...and of course it looked good on her. That was the example I had growing up and who I looked up to. Someone who was not afraid to try a new look or be a little out of the box. So when I read this woman's story it moved me and made me want to give her that confidence and that fire within her to feel amazing and attractive and like she could more or less conquer the world! And to have Katie be able to capture that for her so she can have that memory frozen in time forever, makes it even better!
